Caring for mature skin – our top tips

We need to get one thing straight before we dive into this blog: to age is a privilege. Any sign of ageing on the skin simply means that life has been lived. If you want to see real, unfiltered skin, check out our Instagram

Nothing ever stays the same, however, many people do have a tendency to get into a routine with their skincare and stick with it. While this keeps things simple, we do need to review it from time to time and consider different approaches in order to best look after our skin.

Here, we share with you our top tips for mature skin care and our recommendations of natural skin care products for mature skin.

Mature skincare routine and tips

1. Cleanse gently and thoughtfully

As your skin matures, it tends to lose its ability to store moisture. The cleansing process can exacerbate dryness of the skin, so it is really important to choose a cleanser that is gentle and nourishing.

It’s still vital to remove any makeup, impurities and pollution from the day, but you need to be a little more thoughtful about how to do it. Go slowly, and treat your skin with care.

Our Cleansing Face Balm is suitable for mature sensitive skin – and dermatologically approved for use on all skin types. It helps to break down and remove stubborn makeup, including mascara, while leaving skin smooth, soft and nourished.

Apricot powder is combined with skin-calming blackcurrant seed, blue tansy and sea buckthorn oils. The balm is wonderfully rich in antioxidant Vitamin E from upcycled finely-ground apricot stones. This helps aid against collagen loss, a notable issue for mature skin.

For use on its own or as part of a double cleanse, our Cleansing Face Milk is formulated with soothing oat powder and aloe vera. When applied to the face, this creamy oat powder repairs and restores the skin’s moisture barrier.

The oat cleanser has a milky, creamy formula that hydrates and nourishes the skin, leaving the skin buttery soft.

2. Exfoliate, but not too often

Exfoliation helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines because it removes the build-up of dead skin cells. However, too much can irritate your skin.

For mature skin, we recommend using a gentle exfoliator such as the Floral Blend Coffee Face Scrub. Helping to soothe both redness and irritation, this scrub gently buffs the skin without aggravating it. This scrub also helps to fade dark spots and pigmentation.

Don’t forget to exfoliate the rest of your body, particularly the backs of your arms – you’ll see that this helps your skin to be more vibrant. Our Coffee Body Scrub with Lemongrass contains the highly nourishing coconut oil and shea butter, which helps to moisturise while buffing away any dead skin.

Top tip: When you exfoliate your face, continue down under your chin and around your neck.

3. Benefit from hyaluronic acid

It sounds like it’s not natural or kind to the skin – but hyaluronic acid is both, and essential for locking in moisture to the skin. Hyaluronic acid has been big news in skin care for years, but it isn’t going anywhere.

We naturally produce hyaluronic acid in our skin, but as we age our skin produces less. The good news is that our skin will readily absorb hyaluronic acid from the outside.

Our Face Toner is infused with hyaluronic acid to help balance and protect the skin. Face toner can be used as part of your morning and evening routine, but it can also be spritzed on during the day when your skin is feeling a little flat and dull.

The hyaluronic acid helps to plump and hydrate the skin while chamomile and green mandarin will soothe, making it a great skincare product for mature sensitive skin.

Another of our hyaluronic acid infused products is our Natural Eye Cream. Helping to minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, our eye cream works to firm and protect the delicate eye area.

Our award-winning Night Cream is formulated with replenishing niacinamide to even skin tone, hyaluronic acid to hydrate and rosehip oil to promote overnight skin regeneration. This night cream is made with upcycled blueberries, which are rich in Vitamin A and protect against blue light.

4. Look after the skin around your eyes

As we age, the delicate skin around our eyes needs particular attention. If you haven’t used an eye cream before, now is the time to add an all-natural Eye Cream to your routine.

A gentle and dermatologically approved eye cream, this product is infused with hyaluronic acid and coffee to brighten, refresh and renew, reducing the appearance of dark circles and fine lines.

How to use: Eye cream should be used morning and evening and dabbed on gently with your fingertips – YouTube video.

5. Moisturise

Moisturising has probably been part of your skincare routine to date. However, it can be worth reconsidering your chosen moisturiser as your skin’s needs change over time.

Ideally, you need to find a lightweight face cream that you can also use on your neck and upper chest area. These areas are prone to showing fine lines and being dry and more fragile.

Rich in vitamin E, our Face Moisturiser is a wonderful natural skin care product for mature skin. It uses the fine powder of discarded argan shells combined with beautifully soothing cocoa butter, aloe vera and blood orange.

In the evenings, opt for our Night Cream with Hyaluronic Acid + Niacinamide to help replenish the skin’s moisture barrier. This night cream is made with the antioxidant-rich extract of repurposed blueberries, a by-product of the juicing industry.

For the rest of your body, choose a hydrating body cream. A key ingredient in our popular Body Cream with Aloe Vera is date seeds, which are composed of polyphenols and other antioxidants. Known as a ‘super seed’, the extract is very high in antioxidants and acts as an anti-inflammatory.

Our body cream works to reduce redness, even skin tone, and protect skin, making it perfect for mature skin. It also helps to minimise the appearance of thin blood vessels by inducing vasoconstriction, which can help to reduce varicose veins.

6. Make serum your new friend

Serums are brilliant for locking moisture into the skin, ensuring it looks plump and fresh.

We really do recommend all-natural skin care for mature skin – and all skin for that matter! Our Organic Face Serum fits the bill, being 100% natural, vegan, sustainable and cruelty-free. It’s rich in vitamin C and is immensely hydrating, also working to boost collagen and aid mature skin by helping to keep it firm.

Using serum is also a wonderful way to indulge and pamper yourself. Our serum feels luxurious with its delightful geranium, rose and lemon essential oils.

How to use: Use the serum morning and night after you apply a moisturiser.

7. Use SPF every day

Protecting your skin is absolutely essential, year-round, no matter your age. Using a high-performance mineral sunscreen helps to protect your skin against UVA and UVB rays.

How to use: Apply liberally to the face after moisturiser, massaging into the face until absorbed. Apply before sun exposure. Re-apply frequently to maintain protection, especially after swimming, perspiring or towelling.

For mature skin, always try to focus on natural, hydrating and soothing products and you’ll have a radiant and healthy glow.

You can either introduce one change at a time, or you can benefit from our Mature Skincare Bundle which includes everything you need to get started.
